The District's waterwise demonstration garden, established in 2003, grew out of a joint collaboration between the District, The Greater Laguna Coast Fire-Safe Council, and Mike Parker Landscape.

Located at the District's headquarters at 306 Third Street in downtown Laguna Beach, the garden is designed to show that landscaping can be fire-safe, water efficient, and beautiful all in one design. It's equipped with a weather-based "Smart Timer" controller, which automatically adjusts to water your lawn and plants based on the season, climate, and weather conditions.

Visitors can stroll along paths lined with over 50 different colorful, California-friendly plants, exotic shrubs, and perennials, which were selected for their suitability to the local climate, low water use, and fire resistance.
